We are a group of dental lab owners and executives who believe we have found a solution to a long time problem of the lab hopping dentist. Lab hopping is the practice some dentists have of running up a bill with one lab then rather than pay that lab they hop to another lab and start doing business. Up until now labs have not had a way of knowing which dentists practice this type of behavior.
Our surveys show that the average lab has 6.9% of their dentist classified as deadbeats. This can spell disaster to the smaller labs if the deadbeat constitutes a large per cent of their gross. To the mid size lab the 6.9% of deadbeats represents around $109,000 of bad debt.
Many labs also send out expensive materials in attempts to lure new dentists as clients. These promotional materials are produced and mailed at great expense to the labs. The Urban Dictionary defines deadbeat as, "undeserving of a sales pitch." Would it not be worth $4.95 to learn if this prospective client is a deadbeat?
